The Collective of the Saharawi Defenders of Human Rights (CODESA) recently condemned Moroccan last attacks on Saharawi families houses in the “Inaach” neighbourhood in the occupied city of El Aaiun.
The CODESA declared in a press release, of which the Union of Saharawi Journalists and Writers received a copy, that many children and elderly, men and women, were victims of Moroccan police brutality during this attacks and many houses were ransacked and people goods destroyed.
“Moroccan authorities are practicing an increasingly escalating and provocative policy against the Saharawi civilians in the cities of Western Sahara, in the south of Morocco and in the universities aiming to put an end to the peaceful demonstrations, sit-in and marches of protest led by the Saharawi people who demand their right to self-determination and the respect of human rights as well as the immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners”, CODESA declares.
The Saharawi human rights organisation called on the UN to quickly set the needed mechanisms to protect the Saharawi citizens, and this can be done, according to CODESA, via enlarging the mandate of the UN mission on the ground to include the monitoring of human rights in the territory.
It finally asked for the lifting of the Moroccan military and Medias siege imposed on the Saharawi occupied territory since 1975, and to allow international observers and journalists to freely visit and work in the territory.
On another hand the organisation asked for the protection of the Saharawi students and political prisoners, who are systematically subjected to all kinds of torture and humiliation by the Moroccan authorities, the text indicates.
